BFU: Get the Dirt on CSG - Part 4, Ack Mercer

November 18th, 2013

May 21, 2013

Presentation from Ack Mercer.
Ack's bio: Ack is a recent honours graduate from the School of Social Science at the University of Queensland. She is interested in looking at human-environment relations in a way that incorporates interactions between structural, political, economic, and cultural factors. She believes this is important, relevant, useful stuff. How can we explain (some!) Australians’ ongoing enthusiasm for extractive industries, for example, in a way that acknowledges the complex interconnections between stakeholders’ financial investments, and their/our associated cultural and discursive investments? How does the way we think and talk about resource use and land management in East Coast Australia transact with our place in a neoliberalising political economy?

Ack is a 5th generation Scots/Irish/Cornish colonial immigrant to Australia. She grew up by the river in Indooroopilly (well… near enough?), sometimes by the ocean at Caloundra, and now lives in Kurilpa.
